So I am attempting to update jaws 12 and open book 9.0. I keep getting the message update couldn't be installed try again. Try again doesn't work either. I am wondering about avastwhich is my antivirus program. Am using windows xp. Any suggestions or should I just wait for the next upgrades for jaws and open book then install the new programs and forget about updating anything?
why don't ya try disabling it and updating it again?
Just a suggestion, though.
if not, how about downloading a fresh copy and installing it over?
Raaj.
Probably will do the install again but what I wonder about is why is it saying can't update for 2 different programs? Did try updating when it said try again. Will do re-installs again. Thanks.
I'm confused. do you say that avast isn't letting you update any of your pre-installed programs?
I dono much about avast since I don't like it after a trial once. I prefer nod32 though.

You can get the unable to update messages if you have custom scripts or configuration files. Often I am unable to use the update file because I have several configuration files vastly different from the default settings. Thus I always just grab the entire EXE file which also allows me to run a complete repair if the need arises.
I'd need more facts to know, but it's not Avast that is blocking the update process. Is it Jaws or Freedom Scientific programs that is saying it won't update, or is it saying the updates are failing? What is the message your receive? And why haven't you asked Freedom Scientific yet? They, if need be, will connect to your computer and fix it for you.
I wondered about that. I asked once if FS could dial into my computer, and the tech said he couldn't. The message I am getting is that the program can't update because I deleted parts of the program; I should reinstall it says then try running updates again. The only parts of the program I deleted was the training stuff. Thanks for letting me know FS could dial in here.
i have to say this: FS did dial in here and did a great job. I know there is criticism out there about FS, but I have had very good luck with them. And being retired, I wasn't sure if they wanted to take the time to help me. i do think if anybody has problems with FS updates from their web site, let them dial in and fix it. Whoever came up with this tandem jaws deal did a wonderful thing. I could go on forever about folks trying to help me with jaws and having no clue where to start. Horror stories nobody needs to hear. Not just friends or computer people but vendors too.
